When will I be able to purchase Marijuana legally?
Marijuana will be available for retail sale beginning 1/1/14.
How old do I need to be to buy marijuana?
You must be 21 years old or older to purchase, possess, display, transport or consume recreational marijuana.
Where can I purchase retail marijuana?
Those 21 and older can purchase retail marijuana at licensed retail stores.
How much marijuana can I purchase at one time?
Colorado residents 21 and older can purchase and possess up to 1 ounce of retail marijuana at a time. Non-residents can purchase up to ¼ ounce at a time.
Can I possess marijuana? And how much?
Since Amendment 64 went into effect in late 2012, adults 21 and older have been allowed to possess up to 1 ounce of retail marijuana.
Where can I consume marijuana legally?
Consumption of marijuana may be allowed in private locations providing it is not prohibited by the property owner. Retail marijuana is intended for private, personal use. The Open & Public consumption of marijuana is not allowed in the following locations:
Can I smoke marijuana at work or in a bar?
You cannot burn, smoke, inhale vapors or in any other way consume marijuana in any place of business.
Can I consume marijuana on public transportation?
No. It is illegal to consume marijuana in public, which includes public transportation.
Can I consume marijuana in a vehicle?
You cannot have open containers or consume marijuana in a motor vehicle located on public property or a public right of way. Marijuana may be carried in cars but it may not be in an open container and cannot cross state boundaries. It is illegal to use or consume marijuana in a motor vehicle and it is illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. Anyone with 5 nanograms or more of delta 9-tetrahydrocannabinol (known as THC) per milliliter in whole blood (CRS 42-4-1301) while driving can be arrested for DUI.
Can I sell marijuana?
Selling marijuana to another person for a price is illegal.
Are the rules different for possession and consumption of edible marijuana than for marijuana that can be smoked?
No. Possession laws are the same for all retail marijuana types, and public consumption is always illegal, regardless of form.
What is the penalty for violating marijuana consumption laws?
Consumption violations will result in a mail in fine of $100. Subsequent violations will result in escalating fines & penalties up to a $2,000 fine and 15 days in jail.
