Purple haze extinct

A song recorded in 1967 by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released as both a single in the US and the UK. The single peaked at number 3 in the UK but only reached number 65 in the US.

Some believe that the song is a reference to LSD or an LCD induced drug trip. This is not true and was comfirmed in several interviews with Jimi Hendrix as being inspired by a dream where he was walking beneath the ocean while a purple haze surrounded him. Hendrix explained a tone point that the song is about love and disclaimed any intended reference to drugs. He said that he line whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me” is the key to the meaning of the lyrics. The song got it’s name when Hendrix took the phrase “purple haze” from a Night of Light, a science fiction noel written by Philip Jose Farmer that he was reading at the time.

Weed Nepal

The legend says that Purple Haze, the best of the breed of marijuana was found in Nepal, in the area of Jomsom, Mustang. But Purple Haze, does it really exist?

Wikipedia article on Purple Haze claims, “Purple Haze is a strain of cannabis developed by various Dutch seed breeders known for its purple color, abundance of white trichomes and high potency. It is widely regarded as an extinct strain. The vast majority of seed breeders regard purple haze as a myth due to the fact that any cannabis strain can develop purple calyxs in below optimum temperatures.”

According to wikipedia, yes it exists but it is a hybrid that was developed by Dutch seed breeders. But actually It’s not the color – it’s the THC content. Obviously, you got some with a very high THC content, and it happened to be purple. Green, blue, orange can all do the same.

One businessman who has been strolling around the Mustang area for nearly more than 2 decades says, “There is no such thing as purple ganja, but I’ve seen some plants with purple leaves. They become purple sometimes, in certain conditions.”

The Myth of Purple Haze in Nepal is linked to the another legend, that Jimi Hendrix visited Muktinath of Mustang and it is where he got the lyrics for the song “Purple Haze”.

Is It? No. This seems to be just a coincidence with the myth of Purple Haze(Cannabis). The song purple Haze refers to the LSD, due to the form sold by Sandoz, called Delysid, which came in purple capsules as mentioned in wikipedia but later this particular strain “Purple Haze” was named after the Jimi Hendrix song, created about a type of super potent LSD.

There is a marijuana breed Purple Haze but the Nepali Purple Haze is still a myth.
